The cognitive dissonance bias

This is the tendency to reduce or eliminate the discomfort or inconsistency that we feel when our beliefs or actions are in conflict with each other. For example, if we have a belief that we only hire the best candidates, but we also have a desire to hire someone who is a personal friend or acquaintance, we may be more likely to rationalize or justify our decision, and to overlook or dismiss any evidence or objections that contradict our belief. The cognitive dissonance bias can cause us to make biased or irrational hiring decisions, and it can lead us to overlook the value of honesty, integrity, or self-reflection in the hiring process.
